Breaking the Crime Cycle

According to Prison Fellowship International, 87% of inmates return to jail on other charges after their release. Help HPJM lower that statistic! The High Point Jail Ministry is a 501c3 non-profit agency which provides spiritual, physical and emotional support to inmates at High Point Detention Center. This non-profit, inter-racial, and non-denominational Christian outreach program offers inmates who wish to make a positive change a chance to turn their lives around. Each week 45-50 volunteers provide over 50 hours of classes to those incarcerated at the jail.

Getting to the Heart of the Matter

Our chaplain and volunteers work with any inmate incarcerated at High Point Detention Center to change their lives and fulfill their highest purpose. It is the belief of the High Point Jail Ministry that the only way a criminal can become a productive citizen is through a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. It is, therefore, the Ministry's goal to give all inmates who are willing to participate an opportunity to learn how to enter into a relationship with God and then to give them opportunities to grow into disciples of Christ and become the people God created them to be – productive citizens in our community.

This is done through Bible studies and worship, Christian living classes, referrals to halfway houses and aftercare

programs, and one-on-one spiritual guidance and counseling. HPJM respects the many different faiths represented within the inmate community, and offers to connect individuals with volunteers and spiritual leaders from their own faith.

Through volunteers, the Christian community brings its best resources for substance abuse, recovery, spiritual enrichment and personal growth.

Supported by the Local Community

The ministry is supported financially by local churches, individuals, groups and businesses in the High Point area as well as by funds from a grant from the Inmate Welfare Fund. Our annual HPJM Golf Tournament is our primary fundraiser and a fun way to make a difference!

Benefiting Guilford County

Since 90% of the inmates are residents of Guilford County, High Point Jail Ministry's successes affect local communities as a whole. Sheriff B.J. Barnes says, “I think we will be better served if they (inmates) return to society exposed to the grace of God."
